Set in the peaceful countryside of El Pelayo, Algeciras, this charming Andalusian home offers a rare combination of nature, privacy and convenience, surrounded by mature vegetation and enjoying beautiful open views towards the countryside and Gibraltar.El Pelayo is a small rural village strategically positioned between Algeciras and Tarifa, surrounded by two exceptional protected natural areas: Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Natural Park of the Strait. Despite its wonderfully secluded atmosphere, the village is only around 9 km / 10 minutes by car from Algeciras and approximately 14 km / 17 minutes from Tarifa, making it an ideal location for those looking for country living without feeling isolated. There are also direct bus connections towards both Algeciras and Tarifa. (Rome2Rio)
The village retains an authentic rural character, historically connected to orchards and small agricultural holdings. Its particularly green landscape and abundant vegetation are characteristic of this area between the mountains and the Strait. El Pelayo also has its own primary school, CEIP Pelayo, while the full range of shops, supermarkets, restaurants, healthcare and everyday services can be found just a short drive away in Algeciras or Tarifa.
The Property
Sitting on a generous 3,000 m² plot, the property has all the character of a little Andalusian country house and offers enormous potential for someone wishing to create a special home in nature.
The main house comprises approximately 229 m² and is currently distributed into three bedrooms, one bathroom, a spacious living room with fireplace and a separate generous kitchen, also with its own fireplace.
The existing layout provides plenty of possibilities for renovation and redistribution, allowing the next owner to reinterpret the house while retaining its traditional Andalusian character.
One of its most attractive features is the large, walkable rooftop solarium, an exceptional outdoor space overlooking the surrounding countryside, natural park and Gibraltar in the distance — a wonderful setting for creating a rooftop lounge, dining area or simply enjoying the landscape and the extraordinary light of the Strait.
The house already benefits from a number of practical features, including underfloor heating throughout the property powered by a diesel boiler, hot water via photovoltaic panels, quality flooring and double-glazed thermal windows fitted with mosquito screens.
3,000 m² of Nature
Outside, the property feels like its own little countryside retreat.
The land extends to approximately 3,000 m² and is filled with mature vegetation and an impressive variety of fruit trees, including orange, lemon, loquat, fig, quince, avocado, cherimoya, mulberry, vines, pomegranate, pear and chestnut trees, together with pines, araucarias, cypresses and yuccas.
The gardens also feature bougainvillea, hibiscus, oleander, rosemary, mint and other Mediterranean plants, creating a lush and established environment around the house.
A private swimming pool sits within the garden, surrounded by trees and open countryside. Its water-renewal system is supported by two solar thermal panels.
The property also includes a large glazed entrance porch, garage with laundry area and bathroom, two covered exterior parking areas, and a permanent alarm system. Being an independent property, there are no community fees.
What makes this home particularly appealing is its setting: it feels immersed in nature, yet it sits almost exactly between two very different lifestyles — the beaches, surf culture and laid-back atmosphere of Tarifa, and the extensive services and connections of Algeciras.
A property with authentic Andalusian character, beautiful surroundings and significant potential to become a very special countryside home overlooking the Strait.
